Dear Ellen, I’ve been struggling to reignite my faith and strengthen my relationship with God. Are there any resources or advice you can recommend to help me get back on track spiritually? – Searching for Faith
Dear Searching for Faith,
Thank you so much for reaching out! It’s always encouraging to see someone striving to reignite their faith. We all go through times of spiritual renewal, and your perseverance is inspiring.
Our relationship with God is a lot like any other relationship – it’s dynamic, going through seasons of closeness and distance. Just like in our human relationships, sometimes we need to change things up when the connection feels stuck or stale.
Here are a few resources and ideas that might help refresh your connection with God:
Engage with new media: Try some content that offers a fresh perspective on God’s nature and His relationship with us. The Chosen TV Series, The Bema Podcast, The Bible Project’s videos, Theology in the Raw podcast, or Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus are all some of my favorites. Anything by Tara Leigh Cobble is also a great resource for deepening your biblical understanding.
Revisit Christian fiction: Sometimes, a good story can reignite our sense of wonder in God’s larger story. The Shack, Redeeming Love, The Mark of the Lion Series, The A.D. Chronicles, or anything by Mesu Andrews are compelling reads that can pull you into biblical themes in a way that feels personal and fresh.
Change up your time with God: Consider focusing less on a strict “read this, pray this” routine, and try visualizing your time with Him. I sometimes picture myself sitting in His lap as He comforts me, laying at His feet in worship, or just standing under His loving gaze, letting His presence wash over me. These moments have brought me closer to Him in powerful ways, often more meaningful than when I’m just ticking off boxes in my quiet time. God cares about your heart and connecting with you, however that looks!
I hope this gives you some inspiration as you move forward in your faith journey. I’ll be praying for your continued growth and connection with God.
